Principal Investigator

Principal Investigator at the Institute of Chemical Biology, Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, and doctoral supervisor at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School. Recipient of the National Science Fund for Overseas Young Scholars. The group focuses on the chemical biology of glycan interactions and editing — including the identification of glycosylation, the development of editing tools, and the engineering of glycans on functional molecules.

Research statement

The glycome underpins molecular interaction and information flow in living systems. Unlike the genome or the proteome, it remains the 'dark matter' of biology, awaiting systematic exploration.

We follow a read–edit–engineer framework along the protein- and RNA-glycan axes, and turn our understanding of glycan function into controllable cellular programmes and disease interventions.

Sihui Ma

Sihui Ma

Associate Researcher

Joined the group in 2023 after receiving her Ph.D. from the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, Peking University. Her research applies chemical biology tools to study cell membrane biology.

Yuqi Zhai

Yuqi Zhai

Postdoc

Yuqi received her B.S. from Sichuan University in 2018 and her Ph.D. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2023. She then continued at the Chinese University of Hong Kong as a researcher for two years before joining Professor Ge Yun's group in 2026. Her current research focuses on the development of glycoprotein screening tools.

Huixia Feng

Postdoc

Huixia received her Ph.D. from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2026. Her research focuses on the development of functional peptides for drug delivery and bioimaging.

Xuyang Li

Xuyang Li

PhD students

Xuyang received her M.S. from Shenzhen University in 2022, then joined Ge Yun's group as a research assistant. She has been pursuing her Ph.D. in the same group since 2023. Her current research focuses on proximity-labelling glycoproteomics.

Guojian Shao

Guojian Shao

PhD students

Guojian received his M.S. from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2022. His research focuses on the regulatory roles of post-translational modifications in gene expression, and their physiological and pathological implications.

Na Wang

Na Wang

PhD students

Na received her M.S. from Inner Mongolia University in 2022, joined Ge Yun's group as a research assistant, and began her Ph.D. in the same group in 2024. Her current research focuses on the development and application of chemical biology tools for protein post-translational modification studies.

Silan Liu

Silan Liu

After receiving her M.S. from South China Normal University, Silan joined Ge Yun's group to pursue her Ph.D. She is currently developing new strategies for detecting and manipulating cell-surface glycans.

Weicheng Fang

After completing his M.S. at Zhejiang A&F University, Weicheng worked for a year at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center. He joined Ge Yun's group in 2024 and began his Ph.D. in the same group the following year. He currently studies the function of OGT.

Yixuan received her B.S. in Bioengineering from Huazhong Agricultural University in 2025, then joined the group to pursue her Ph.D. She is currently focused on research related to glycoRNA.

Zhongli Fu

PhD students

Zhongli is a jointly-supervised Ph.D. student admitted in 2025 from Harbin Institute of Technology. Her research focuses on antibody-based therapeutic strategies targeting cell-surface membrane proteins.

Lishan Wang

Lishan received her M.S. from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine in 2025 and joined the group as a research assistant in 2026. Her current research focuses on the role of GlycoRNA in disease progression.

Jiuzhou Xu

Jiuzhou Xu

Research assistant

Jiuzhou received his B.S. from South China Agricultural University in 2023 and his M.S. from Southern University of Science and Technology in 2026. He then joined Professor Ge Yun's group. His current research focuses on the dynamic regulation of glycoRNA and the development of new glycoRNA regulatory tools.
